How to use the new Messages features in iOS 17

If you have an iPhone from the previous five years, iOS 17 is ready to install. As usual, Apple has brought enhancements and new features to its iOS apps and the mobile operating system.

On iOS 17, voice messages come with text transcriptions. Read the transcription instead of pressing play. The text is always attached and cannot be disabled.

Check In, my favorite new feature in Messages for iOS 17, lets you share an anticipated arrival time with a trusted contact and send an alarm if you don't arrive on time.

Tap the plus button next to the text input box in a discussion Select Check In from the menu. Tap Edit to choose When I arrive or After a timer for Check In.

Go for When I arrive, you choose a location, mode of transport, and expected trip time. The app will contact you if you miss the ETA.

Alternatively, choose After a timer, choose a duration, and check-in occurs.
